Two layers of checking
Instant rules run in your browser on every keystroke. They are exact and explainable: “could of” is always wrong, and a doubled “the the” is always a typo. They can’t understand meaning, so they miss subject–verb agreement across a long clause or a wrong tense.
The AI check reads the whole passage the way an editor would. It catches agreement, tense, dangling modifiers and awkward phrasing, and returns a corrected version plus a list of changes with reasons. It keeps your dialect: British “colour” stays “colour”.
The mistakes we see most
- its / it’s – “it’s” is only ever “it is” or “it has”.
- then / than – comparisons take “than”: “better than”, “rather than”.
- could of / should of – always “could have”, “should have”.
- a / an goes by sound, not letter: “an hour”, “a university”.
- affect / effect – usually affect is the verb, effect the noun.

What does the instant check catch?
Common confusions (its/it’s, then/than, could of), a/an errors, repeated words, frequent misspellings, spacing and capitalisation problems, passive voice, wordy phrases and very long sentences.
Will the AI change my writing style?
It is told to keep your meaning, voice and British or American spelling, and to fix errors only. It lists each change with a reason so you can accept or ignore it.
Can grammar tools make my essay look AI-written?
Heavy rewriting tools can make text smoother and more uniform, which some AI detectors pick up. Fixing genuine errors does not. If you are worried, keep your drafts and version history as evidence of your process.
